I’ve been weaning Liv this month and it’s been such an eye opener to her growing personality! Such a stubborn little miss!
Since beginning the weaning process, she has not allowed me to touch or comfort her (or maybe I needed the comfort) while going to sleep. No touching, cuddling or kissing. She rolls away from me in the bed and makes little noises that sound like, “hmmn.” Nick asked me if she was trying to punish me. I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry.
Isn’t that just like us with our Heavenly Father? We don’t like the spiritual growth that we are going through, so we cross our arms, stamp our foot and utter that little sound, “hmmn!” As if it will change our need for growth.
Thank goodness, our attitude never changes His love & care for us. Romans 8: 38 & 39 (NET) “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor heavenly rulers, nor things that are present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Yesterday, for the first time, Liv finally crawled up into my lap to nap. Calling my name sweetly. Oh the joy that burst in my heart to cuddle that little sweetheart as she fell asleep. Only to have the joyous experience repeated at bed time! I had been so afraid that it wouldn’t happen again.
Do you think that’s the way God feels when we simply rest in His presence? Wow! I hope so!
Psalms 131:2 (NASB) ”Surely I have composed and quieted my soul; Like a weaned child rests against his mother, My soul is like a weaned child within me.”

Thanks Deven! This brought tears to my eyes. Myah is 7 months old & breastfeeding. I didn’t realize the loss associated with weaning. I will be more thankful & cherish the time. Your story really touched my heart.
Oh, Donna! Hold Myah tight and enjoy this time of babyhood! It goes too fast!
But don’t forget the next stage is just as wonderful. I love listening to Liv become a little girl & seeing her interact with her brother & sisters.
My kiddos all quit on their own!! So hard to do isn’t it! I am so glad she had that response only after a little while.
This also reminds me of holding on to sin for way too long and saying “No, I don’t want to give it up!”, but then God is there waiting with open arms. That is grace and mercy for sure.

You, Lucky Duck!
None of mine have willing weaned. But, Liv wasn’t the worst experience; that is held by my oldest when I tried to tandem nursing my first two. I learned really quick that I just could not do it. He had such horrible fits.
That is a wonderful thought about God’s grace & mercy. I love that He is always there with open arms.
I have never had to deal with that! My children all wean themselves at a year I actually wish they’d stick around for a while longer.
Nice post.

Weaning my daughter at 15 months was torture for both of us…. it was just over 7 years ago now and I remember every miserable heart breaking moment. She also came back to me and thrived . Loving your blog and now following xx Ava
Thank you! It took a bit but she came around. Now, at 3 years old, she is such a cuddler.
